In 1979 a new Chinese government opened the country to outsiders for the first time in 30 years. Dr Donald Gibbs and his camera were there. On Thursday, July 28 at 1pm, Dr Gibbs, now Emeritus Professor of Chinese Language, Literature, and Film at UC Davis, will share his vision of China at its pivotal moment of global change. You can also view his amazing photos on his website: China 1979. Dr Gibbs recently published a beautiful book, The Year that Changed China, showcasing his most poignant images from China in 1979, which is also available at the Library.
