Crosscut Saw Certification Training

The U.S. Forest Service and La Veta Trails offer crosscut saw certification training for people who want to join our Spanish Peaks Wilderness Steward (SPWS) field crews. SPWS protect and improve wilderness trail conditions, reduce erosion and damage to natural resources, and improve the quality of the visitor experience by removing trees and brush from trails. SPWS work is completed without motorized and mechanized equipment, protecting wilderness character for you and future generations. Through our funding partners, La Veta Trails has been able to pay sawyers. Payment for the 2022 Season is contingent on the renewal of this funding.
Certification will require participants to hold a First Aid/CPR Certificate, complete an online course, attend a 3 hour class on May 20th, and completed 12 hours of field training on May 21st and May 22nd. La Veta Trails will offer the First Aid / CPR training through the La Veta Fire Protection District. There is not charge for the training.
