Monday, June 20th 6:00PM Celebration of Life for Rena Kaplowitz at La Veta Town Park Pavilion A celebration of life for Rena Kaplowitz, long-time La Veta resident, business owner, entrepreneur, instructor, masseuse, and communitarian. This is a potluck event, please bring something to share. We will have a PA system for sharing memories or stories about Rena and her vivid life. Music and dancing with live music will also be provided. The celebration is in La Veta’s Town Park beneath the pavilion at 6pm. Dogs must be on leashes, no alcohol allowed in the park. Should weather be a factor, this event will be moved to the La Veta Mercantile. Tuesday, June 21st – July 23rd Western Rendezvous Art Show at SPACe Gallery This is a judged and juried show with cash awards. Deadline for submission is June 18, 2022. We are excited to have Colorado artist Kim Mackey, known for his mastery of Western Art, as the judge for our show this year. Opening reception is June 25th from 5-7pm. Tuesday, June 21st 1:00-3:00PM Clay Play Class – Capps Room at Francisco Fort Museum The clay play class will be conducted by Ethan Meyler, a Eagle Scout and future art teacher. Over the past eight years, Ethan has attended multiple child, teen and adult SPACe art workshops to include the La Veta School of the Arts Fridays for Fun series and Peggy Zehrings Drawing & Painting workshop. The clay being used is Plastilina, non hardening modeling clay. Students will be taught techniques of using clay utensils. This is a free class for kids 9-14. The class date is June 21st, 2022 1:00-3:00pm. It will be held in the Capps room at Francisco Fort Museum. To enroll students call (719) 989-8438 before June 20th. Come experience the rocks of Lathrop State Park on aGeology Hike Saturday, June 25th at 9am starting at the amphitheater. We will hike along the Hogback Trail with delightful Geologist & Geophysicist Heloise Lynn. Walk through 60 million plus years of geologic history. It is suggested to bring plenty of water, and wear a hat and sunscreen. This program is free. Park passes are required on all vehicles in the park.
