Volunteer Workday Huerfano State Wildlife Area
Please meet at the Huerfano State Wildlife Area (HSWA), Gardner where volunteers will be asked to cut willows along short sections of the Huerfano River with hand tools and pile the cut material in designated areas. This project is a joint effort between Colorado Parks and Wildlife and La Veta Trails to improve fishing access on the Huerfano River. The minimum age requirement is 13, parents must accompany their children if they are under 16. Our goal is to have 6-10 volunteers! All volunteers should pack the following items: Water bottles (La Veta Trails will provide cold water throughout the day), Layered clothing, Eye protection, Sunscreen, Work gloves and hat, Wear sturdy shoes, tools (please bring loppers if you have them). La Veta Trails will provide lunch and snacks.
DIRECTIONS: The drive to the HSWA from La Veta takes about one hour.
CANCELLATION PROCEDURE: We will work through light rain or other mild weather conditions. However, if we have to cancel, we will email you by 7:00 am. If you need to cancel, please let us know as soon as possible.
